Computers   Circulating Materials  Other Services  Outreach

Basic Computer Rules:

The Somerville Public Library has seven computer terminals on its main floor, for the public to use, in addition to one terminal that the public may use to search the collection. All of the terminals on the main floor have access to the internet, and are connected to printers. Several of these computers also have Microsoft Office installed, for word processing, to create databases, to enhance images, and to create spreadsheets.

There are five computers located in Somerville Public Library’s Children’s Department. Three computer terminals have filtered internet access and Microsoft Office, and are connected to printers, one terminal that may be used with CD-ROMs provided by the library, and one terminal that is for searching the collection only.

  • Please register at the Circulation Desk before using a computer

  • Turn OFF the ringer on your cell phone while in the library

  • You have thirty (30) minutes to use the computer.  The time starts running the moment the computer is assigned to you by a staff member, no "time outs"

  •  You can extend that time for 30 minutes ,more IF nobody is waiting for a computer (one hour per day is the maximum time permitted)

  • You can use the computer once a day only

  • It is $0.15 per page to print in black & white, and $0.30 per page to print in color.  You must pay for every page that you print.  If you don't know how to select what you want to print, please ask a staff member.

  • Staff people will provide assistance as a courtesy, within their limitations of time and skills.

To review the complete "Internet Use Policy,"  please ask a staff member or click HERE

Circulating Materials:

The Somerville Public Library carries a variety of items which can be taken out on patrons' cards, which include books, large print books, periodicals, digital audio books through ListenNJ, books on CD and cassette, DVDs, videocassettes, and music CDs.  If an item is not in our system, you may ask one of our reference librarians, and they may be able to order it through Interlibrary Loan.  The library has an extensive New Jersey history collection located in the New Jersey room.  Several of the books in that room may be checked out on a Somerville Public Library card, as well.

Materials in Spanish, such as Adult and Children's books, music CD's, ESL packages, and videocassettes may also be taken out on a patron's card.

Other Services:

  • Have an exhibit you want to display?  The library has several display cases available.

  • The Somerville Public Library's New Jersey Room serves as a meeting room, and houses the library's local history collection.  It may be reserved at the circulation desk for conferences, meetings, tutoring sessions, and for the use of the typewriter.
  • New Jersey county maps and Verizon phone books are also available to the public, but may only be used in the library, along with reference books and other non-circulating materials.
  • Notary Public service is available free of charge.  Please call (908) 725-1336, ext. 12 to schedule a notary appointment.
