How to use ListenNJ
ABOUT ListenNJ
ListenNJ is a pilot program for 73 libraries in New Jersey
Access is easy! Use your personal computer and library card to check-out
and download digital audio books in the following categories:
· popular
fiction,
· biography,
· business
and career,
· children’s
and teen literature and learning aids,
· current
events and history,
· mystery,
suspense and thrillers,
· religion
and spirituality,
· romance,
and
· self
improvement.
You may download to your personal computer and transfer the data to a “Plays
For Sure” PDA or MP3 player. For a listing of compatible devices, please
see the “Plays For Sure” website at
http://www.playsforsure.com.
Digital audio books can also be burned to a CD-ROM disc, which may then be
played on a CD/MP3 player.

To access digital books at ListenNJ you will need:

that you can download and enjoy digital books at home, at work, or when you
travel, but we would rather that you didn’t download audio books onto
library computers
How to Use
ListenNJ: Step by Step Instructions
Step 1:
With a fast internet connection, go to the ListenNJ website at
http://www.listennj.com.
Step 2:
For a more detailed overview of the process, click on “New to Digital Books?
Click Here!,” located on the upper right side of the page.
Step 3:
If you would not like a detailed overview, in the menu on the right side,
look for Software Downloads. Click on the OverDrive Audio Book link
directly underneath Software Downloads. This will bring you to the “Help -
Software - OverDrive Audio Books” page.
NOTE: Make sure that your computer or hand held device meets the system
requirements for the OverDrive Media Console.
Step 4:
Download the OverDrive Media Console, and Windows Media Player 9 or newer
(if it is not included on your machine). Instructions for downloading both
applications are located on the same Help page.
The first time the Windows Media Player attempts to play a copyrighted file,
it will alert you that Security Upgrade must be performed. This is a one
time process that identifies the copy of Windows Media Player with the
computer on which the player is being used.
Step 5:
At ListenNJ, there are several ways to search for titles:

Search for a book using the Audio Book Search feature. You may search by
author, title, or all.

The “Advanced Search” feature lets you search by title, author, keyword,
ISBN, language, publisher, subject, or a combination of those features.

You may browse the collection by availability in Always Available,
Recently Added, Try These, or Classics.

Browse the collection by different genres of fiction , or literature for
Children and Teens.

Browse the Non-Fiction collection by subject: All Nonfiction, Biography
and Autobiography, Business, Self-Help, or Learn a Language
As shown below, once you search for a title, your search results may be
sorted by clicking on title, author, published date, most popular, or date
added to the site.
Step 6:
Select the audio book that you would like to download by
clicking on “add to cart” located directly beneath the title, to the right
of the screen. This will bring you to the “My Cart” page.
To select other books click on “Continue Browsing”, or if you are finished
selecting books, click on “Proceed to Checkout.”
Please remember that items in your cart remain there for 30 minutes only.
When 30 minutes are through, they are returned to the collection.
Step 7:
Once you are finished searching for book, and have
clicked “Proceed to Check Out,” please do the following:

Under
Library, Select Libraries of Middlesex Automation Consortium, the system of
libraries of which Somerville is a part.

Type
in your library card number—the number on the back of your library
card—WITHOUT spaces.

Enter
your PIN. If you do not know your PIN, please contact the Somerville Public
Library, and we will tell you or e-mail your PIN to you.

Hit
<Enter> or click on Login.
Step 8:
The Check Out screen asks you to Confirm Checkout and
tells you how many other books you currently have checked out, as shown
below:
Step 9:
Once you have clicked the button to confirm that you
would like the items, they will then be checked out to you and you may then
download your selection or selections.
