Downloading & Enjoying eBooks & Audiobooks Via eReaders, Tablets & Smartphones

The Sayreville Library has created instructions for some of the most popular devices used for reading ebooks. Some of these devices also support audiobooks. To find out what formats your device supports, click here and find your device in the list. The below instructions will walk you through the overall process of downloading an ebook or audiobook from start to finish. Some devices can do the complete process by downloading and using the Overdrive Media Console app, while some other devices will need to start off initially on a computer, where you will need to download the Overdrive Media Console or Adobe Digital Editions, and then transfer the title over to the device.

Instructions for Apple/Android Devices (PDF version)

Instructions for Kindle eReaders (PDF version)

Instructions for the Original Kindle Fire (PDF version)

Instructions for the New Kindle Fire HD (PDF version)

Instructions for Nook eReaders & other eReaders (PDF version)

Instructions for Nook Tablets (PDF version)

Don't see your device? Visit this list here to see if your device is compatible. Tablets that download apps via the Google Play store should refer to the Apple/Android instructions listed above and use the Android portion of the instructions. Simple eReaders (aside from Kindle eReaders) can use the instructions for the basic Nook eReader above. If you have trouble downloading any of the above instructions, contact Alaina at alainad@lmxac.org

Transferring Audiobooks Titles from a Computer to a Device

Apple users should use the linked instructions below to transfer audio titles to an MP3 player and not use the Overdrive Media Console.
Requirements for Windows PCs:
A computer with Windows XP, Vista, 7, or 8; a MP3 player or device that can play MP3 or WMA files; the USB cable that came with your device; OverDrive Media Console for Windows; iTunes v9.1 (or newer) (only if transferring to Apple devices); a downloaded audiobook title. For further information on the transfer process from a Windows PC to a device, click here.
Requirements for a Mac Computer: A computer with Mac OS 10.4.9 (or newer); a MP3 player or device that can play MP3; a USB cable for your device; a downloaded MP3 title. For further information on the transfer process from a Mac to a device, click here.

Tips

You may have up to 5 titles checked out.

You can return titles that have not been downloaded by you yet within your account in eLibraryNJ. You cannot return audio titles early that have been already downloaded by you. You need to wait for the system to return the title on its due date, so pick your due date carefully for items!

Popular titles may occasionally require a waitlist. Add yourself to the waitlist and you will receive an email when the title is available. Sayreville Library is constantly adding titles to help decrease the waiting time for wait list titles.
