    Library Policies


    LIBRARY CARDS

    Anyone who lives, works, or owns property in Matawan or Aberdeen may apply for a library card at the circulation desk. Proper identification and a signed application are required. Students become eligible for adult cards in seventh grade. Those children who are younger require a parent's signature on their application. Non-residents may purchase library cards for $10 ($5 for seniors) renewed anually.

    Items other than Rapid Reads, New Books, 7 Day Books, Magazines, and DVDs can be borrowed for an extended Vactation Loan of 4 weeks. Material limit is the same as above.

    RETURNING

    • An outdoor book return is located on the Park Avenue side of the library and may be used at any time. The book return is emptied each morning, before the library opens
    • Any overdue charges should be paid on the next visit to the library.
    • DVDs, CDs, and cassettes should be returned to the circulation desk. They may be left in the book drop if you cannot make it into the library.

    LOST CARDS

    • Identification is required to get a replacement library card. The cost is $1 for the first card, $2 for the second card and $3 for the third and subsequent cards.

    RENEWING LOANS

    • Library materials (except DVDs) may be renewed in person or by phone as long as they are not on hold for someone else.
    • 7 Day materials may renewed once. 14 Day materials may renewed up to 3 times.
    • DVDs cannot be renewed. They must be brought back into the library and taken out again as long as they are not on hold for someone else.

    PLACING RESERVES

    • You may reserve a book online.
    • You may call the library during operating hours to ask that a book be held for you.
    • You may also fill out a reserve card in the library.
    • There is no charge for placing reserves.

    INTERLIBRARY LOANS

    • Items not owned by the library may often be borrowed from other libraries.
    • Lending policies may not be the same for all libraries

    OVERDUE MATERIALS

    • The overdue charge for 14 day materials is 5 cents per day. The charge for 7 day materials is 10 cents per day.
    • DVDs have an overdue fine of $1.00 per day.
    • JerseyCat and Interlibrary loans have an overdue fine of $ .25 per day.


    EXAM PROCTORING

    • Due to space and staff limitations, we do not currently offer proctoring services.


    USE OF RECORDING DEVICES

    • Filming and photography is prohibited on library property unless permission has been been granted by the Library Director.
