Guide to using E-Readers with eLibraryNJ

eLibraryNJ is a free service that allows patrons to use thier library cards to download audio book and ereaders to thier computers and portable devices.

A few things to know before you begin:

  • Books from eLibraryNJ are treated the same way as physical books. Once the lending period for an ebook or audio book is expired, you will no longer have access to that book.
  • eLibraryNJ supports a very long list of ereaders and portable devices including the Amazon Kindle, Barnes and Noble Nook, Sony Reader, and Borders Kobo. For a full list of supported devices, click here.
  • If your portable device supports apps like the iPhone, iPad, Windows Phone, Blackberry, or Android, you can browse eLibraryNJ on your device and download your books using an app. You can find the links to the apps on the right.
  • You will need to download software in order to download ebook and audio books from eLibraryNJ for reading and listening on your computer.
    Use Adobe Digital Editions for EBooks. Click the icon to download.

Borrowing ebooks and audio books from eLibraryNJ
  1. Browse eLibraryNJ for a title you are interested in.
  2. Click "Join Waiting List" or "Add to Cart".
    • Join Waiting List means the book is currently being borrowed. When you join a wating list, you will recieve an email when the book is ready for you.
  3. Click "Proceed to Checkout".
  4. Choose "Libraries of Middlesex Automation Consortium" as your library.
  5. Log in using your library card and PIN number (by default, the last 4 digits of card number).
  6. Choose how long you would like to borrow the book, and click "Confirm Checkout".
  7. If you were not placed on a waiting list, then click "Download".
  8. If your browser asks you, choose where you would like to save the file.
Transfering your book to your device
EBooks
  1. Once your download has finished, click it to open it. If you have already installed Adobe Digital Editions, it will open automatically and add your book to your library.
  2. Plug your device into your computer via its USB cable.
  3. Once you see your device appear in the left panel, go to your library. (see icon right)
  4. Drag and drop the book from your library to your device.

Audio Books
  1. Once your download has finished, click it to open it. If you have already installed Overdrive Media Console, it will open automatically and add your book to your library.
  2. Plug your device into your computer via its USB cable.
  3. When the download of your audibook has completed, click the book you want to transfer to a mobile device and press the transfer button at the top.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to transfer your book.
