    BOOK REVIEWS

    “Ever” by Gail Carson Levine
In Levine’s new book, Kezi, a vivacious and heroic mortal, goes on a dangerous quest in order to evade death and stay with her love, Olus the god of winds. This story is a good adventure tale with a journey to the underworld, a meeting with gods and goddesses and an escape from death. However, it does not have the same fairy tale feeling that is found in Ella Enchanted and many other of Levine’s books. With an exciting story told alternately by Kezi and Olus and deities similar to those found in Greek Mythology, readers are unlikely to be bored. LR

“Girl in Blue” by Ann Rinaldi
A girl named Sarah runs away from her abusive father and a forced marriage. She disguises herself as a boy and before long, is a soldier in the American Civil War. As her journey takes twists and turns, she encounters another life-changing adventure. This book is a great historical read with mystery, adventure and romance. I enjoyed the historical background and the intrigue. Girl in Blue is something anybody can enjoy. MH

    “This Lullabye” by Sarah Dessen
You think you know everything about guys. But do you really? That’s what Remy thinks until she meets Dexter. Then she’s not so sure. He’s different from the other guys. What will happen?
You will have to read to find out. AB

    “Airman” by Eoin Colfer
This was a great book! I flew through the pages. It has action, adventure, fantasy, romance, and suspense – something for everyone. DT

“Tamar: A novel of Espionage, Passion and Betrayal”
        by Mal Peet

If you like historical fiction, you’ll like this book. From the first chapter on, I could not put the book down. The scenes flip between Nazi occupied Holland during WWII, and a young girl, Tamar, living in the present (1995). Her grandfather commits suicide leaving her a small box of items from the past. The suspense carries you right to the end, as Tamar tries to piece together the puzzles of her grandfather’s life as a spy for the Allied Forces during the Dutch Resistance.

    "Beastly" by Alex Flinn
A romance story is usually the last thing I want to pick up at the library--but Alex Flinn's "Beastly" was different. "Beastly" is an enchanting modern version of the classic fairytale of "Beauty and the Beast." One of my favorite twists in "Beastly" are the online chatrooms sessions between the Beast and his fellow fairytale creatures. Can you imagine what life must be like for a 16-year-old Beast looking for love in present day NYC? "Beastly" is a great updated version of the tale as old as time, reminding readers that beauty comes from within.

"I Am Legend." by Richard Matheson's
I found it to be a very too engaging and enjoyable novel. While it may be a little too graphic for younger adolescents, mature teens will find it a great read.
